The card reader says no connection, five people are in line, and the phone in your pocket still shows full bars. A workable POS internet backup plan has three layers: a cellular fallback route for the register, battery backup on the modem and router, and a practiced manual routine for the rare day when both fail.

Why does checkout stop when the internet does?
